Brownstone Facade Restoration.
Year
2024
Mayta + Sebastian Architecture (M+S) restored a Brooklyn brownstone built in 1881. The facade, part of a historic row, presented challenges like stop work orders and decay. Despite this, M+S ensured authenticity and approval from NYC agencies while overcoming pandemic restrictions.

M+S began with the stoop, removing damage and applying a scratch coat. Cast-iron elements, archways, lintels, and sills were repaired. A cement base allowed for accurate recreation of the historic finish. Wood cornices, gates, and fences were also restored. The project met all preservation standards while broadening M+S’s technical expertise in landmark structures.
